Band History
Lance and Paul worked in various bands in the early 70’s before fronting the successful funk/soul band in the 80’s called Hot Quisine.
A fine seven piece outfit that enjoyed quite a few dance hits, the most successful being Who’s Been Kissing You? This was a great achievement for an unknown band from Sheffield to crack the American market. This became a top twenty song in the American dance charts and went on to be one of the best disco/dance tracks of the decade in the clubs of New York.
Unfortunately through bad management and various company policies Hot Quisine never seemed to be able to capitalise on their success in the States, so subsequently the band split up with members enjoying various success of their own.
After the demise of Hot Quisine Lance and Paul decided to form the duo StarStar.
How do you go from a seven piece band singing mainly original songs to a duo doing the cabaret and workingmen’s club circuit?
First of all you try and sing songs that you enjoyed growing up with and look at the overall picture of entertaining people of all age groups. The consensus was if the majority know it, they will enjoy what you are trying to achieve.
This became a winning formula for the act, and from a small beginning StarStar have achieved an enormous amount of success by setting a very high standard on the club circuit. Apart from winning numerous awards in the entertainment field including five times winners of the Sheffield Mercury Clubland Award, Lancashire Clubland Award and Blackpool Command show.
Lance and Paul also won through to the final of Bob Monkhouse’s Opportunity Knocks Show. This enabled us once again to sign a new record deal, releasing the old Tramps song Hold Back the Night. Even after all this success StarStar have never faltered on trying to achieve a good show.
Ever the perfectionists they invested a lot of time and effort into a quality Pa system for their live show integrating this with the technology of computerised light effects
StarStar just keep on believing that you must always keep your customers satisfied, and try to stay ahead of your field.
